FERRO DI PRUA SCULPTURES, LAS COLINAS, (SEE NEWS PAGE FOR VIDEOS AND UPDATES)

The Ferro di Prua sculpture project has been installed. Final lighting installation and detailing to be completed soon. For those wondering, "Ferro di Prua" translates to "Iron Bow." It's the iconic design you see at the front (bow) of Venice gondolas. Functionally, it serves as a counter-weight to the gondolier standing at the stern. Symbolically, each shape in this historic design represents an island, a district, a bridge, and even the pompous hat of the Doges of Venice.

PIECES OF YESTERDAY, TODAY & TOMORROW - EAST DIVISION POLICE STATION, FORT WORTH, TX.

Fort Worth Public Art Commission website - COLLECTIONS: One of several pieces in the City of Fort Worth’s Public Art Collection along the historic East Lancaster Corridor, Pieces of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow is a multi-faceted painting by local artist Gregory Beck. Located at the East Division Police Station, the vibrant artwork is inspired by the spirit of East Fort Worth and its ties to, and influences on, the City. Beck researched not only the area’s historic relevance but its cultural diversity, now illustrated in his larger-than-life puzzle in progress.

Showing the evolution of the community in Handley-Meadowbrook, the artwork references signature elements of the area such as the Interurban Railway, which ran from Fort Worth to Lake Erie, and the Pike Drive-In Theater. Beck also included portraits of present-day community members and City of Fort Worth police officers. Inherent in the design of this artwork is the theme of unity, between generations of East Fort Worth, between culturally diverse groups of people, and between police officers and community members. The combination of past and present alludes to the future of East Fort Worth with the sentiment that all are a “piece of the puzzle.”

Community involvement in this piece extends beyond imagery and input as Beck worked solely with local professionals to see the project through to completion. The artist worked with Fort Worth-based company Alternative Cutting Methods to cut aluminum puzzle piece shapes with water-jet technology; he also partnered with Aaron Smith of BSM Painting Studio in Weatherford, Texas to complete the application of automotive paint.

Pieces of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow includes 27 individual puzzle pieces, 8 large-scale panels, and over 900 layers of paint. In its entirety, the artwork is approximately 10 feet high by 80 feet long.

TRINITY METRO TEXRAIL NORTH ENTRANCE PLATFORM, DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

My designs for the TEXRail DFW Airport North Entry Station Public Art Project have been installed. Six graphics placed throughout the seating areas of the loading platform. TEXRail commissioned individual artists to create artwork for each of the train station locations along the rail line between Fort Worth and DFW Airport. My designs highlight the many historic locations and family fun attractions in the Grapevine area. If you haven’t tried the new TEXRail system, do yourself a favor and check it out.

THE DANCING ARCH PROJECT - CIELO PLACE, FORT WORTH, TX

The re-purposing of a historic Church leads to mixed feelings. The community feels a certain loss while cautiously accepting the new beginning for a loved icon. The new Race Street presents a vibe of area revival, artistic expression and a laid back Bohemian style life. I felt the replacement of the old lighted Church sign with a colorful tribute to the area while maintaining elements of the old church would tie the new venue, the new community and the old community together in a visual style.
